Parents

This post is dedicated to my parents. Sorry if sume of the wrdes are missspelled. I’m still a littel high off of all the cleening supplys. I kid.

Kristen and I spent a good portion of the day unpacking things and placing them where they are supposed to go. Well, actually, I’m not really allowed to put things up because I don’t know where they are supposed to go and therefore the places I put things are wrong. So I watch things being put up. Or, if I did put something up, I watch it get moved to where it is supposed to go. As a result, I cleaned. I cleaned like I was taught. Elbow grease, deep down, every little bit of dirt, clean it until its clean.

My mom and dad taught me the value of hard work and I feel good today knowing that the places I cleaned are extremely clean. I really wanted to quit and just relax on this beautiful Saturday, but I have been shaped by a phrase my mom taught me when I was very young and I have never forgotten. It has probably had the biggest impact on the drive I have.

When a task has once begun, never leave it until its done, be the labor great or small, do it well or not at all.

Seems so simple, but I cannot fully convey how this one phrase has molded much of who I am.

What are some things your parents passed on that continue to rock your life?

  1. Porters don’t quit.
You’re old enough for your wants not to hurt you.
    Life’s not fair.
It’s not brave if you’re not scared.
And should probably work on letting this one go sometimes: If you want it done right, you’ve got to do it yourself.

  2. Thanks, Brian. I’m a little surprised you still remember this. :)
