Ruined for the Ordinary // never be the same
It’s a little unclear to me who first said, “I’ve been ruined for the ordinary.” As far as I can tell, there has been at least one book released with this title as well as an album, along with a multitude of blogs following along the same idea.
I heard it the other day from Lee, a friend that I’ve been working with to get the college stuff rolling at Cornerstone. I had one of those, “That phrase feels familiar to me, but its so good and fresh at this moment”…moments.
I have been ruined for the ordinary. Time and again, God has moved in huge ways in my life or the life of my family or a close friend. Healing miracles, drastic life change, financial support, broken relationships restored, etc, etc. None of those specific events were man-sized tasks, they were God-sized and they ruined me for ordinary, mundane living.
“Just making it by” is boring. “Just going to the office” is not worth it. Laying around on the weekends is no fun (unless I’ve poured myself out over extraordinary things during the week and need the rest).
I believe it was on Steven Furtick’s blog the other day where I read, “Let God add his extra to your ordinary.” See the world a little differently today. See it from outside your normal perspective. Let God add His extra to your ordinary and let Him ruin for the ordinary and mundane.
Carpe Diem! (Watch the whole thing, and then go change the world!) Carpe Diem!
