A Movement // or an event
On our trip to Macon yesterday to drop off our Hammond X77 and Leslie Cabinet (a B3 that’s a solid state instead of tubes basically) Dan and I had some conversation that wrapped around those big ideas that look like they are way out there, but could be closer than either of us think. Those conversations are great to me because you have the opportunity to connect with someone else about what is really stirring your heart and motivating you to go forward. You can proceess all that’s been swimming around in your head. Those conversations are also frightening in a way because you are faced with those reality questions about “how in the world are we going to pull this off?”
I don’t remember what sparked it, but I uttered a comment that was made by someone very smart a long time ago, and I know it to be truth, but it just hit home for me when it came out. “People don’t want to be part of an event. There’s nothing to inspiring about that. People want to be part of a movement. Something they can throw their whole live into that will make an impact far greater than they ever could on their own.”
The Reformation. American Independence. Abolition of slavery. Women’s suffrage. Civil Rights. Death of Apartheid. You name it.
I don’t know if God will ever call me to be lead a movement. But I’m going to keep dreaming big and going after the God sized tasks and if He chooses to put a whole bunch of people behind one cause I’m leading, I hope I will be humble, obedient, and ready to lead.
Are you a part of a movement? Are you leading one?

I am going to coin the current movement the Internet Reformation for that of a better thing to call it, but there is certainly a movement going on in the church today.
You can see it clearly in the churches that are dying and refusing to change (technology) and some churches that don’t consider themselves part of the body, but the body itself by itself.
Church is going to go on with or without these churches and you have some that are willing to change, some that are only willing to do the status-quo and some that are already empty echoing walls.

I don’t think you can truly separate a Christ- follower from the movement Christ began. He prayed that we would be as one and that we would do even greater things. The simple truth is that many who have become followers have ceased following. We have resigned ourselves to sit in the boat of salvation and warm ourselves in the Son. Jesus called Peter to be greater than a fisherman but to be a fisher of men. After His crucifixion, Jesus found Peter fishing for fish. Jesus returned to His call to feed the sheep. Our song, mantra and prayer needs to reflect “Come now fount of every blessing!” Do you want a revolution? Are you willing for God’s revolution to begin in your heart? Are you willing for the things that break His heart to break your heart? Are you willing to die? Our heart needs to be bound to His to be a part of a revolution. Events comes and go. Revolutions live!
