Yesterday // putting on love
So I had the opportunity to speak as part of the mini-series in our super-series, “Alive.” Those opportunities are humbling to me and also amazing. I really enjoy speaking but don’t get to do it much. It also affords me the chance to stand and sing with Kristen which doesn’t happen much.
Anyway. Worship was the subject. What better subject to talk about right. I poured over books and scripture for days prepping for this one, and had a blast doing it. The basic premise of the message was that God reveals Himself which requires a response from us. And in responding, we must move from the consumer to the consumed. We must not consume an event or an experience because that is not a healthy response to what Christ has done for us and in us. We must be consume, i.e., place our life fully in His hands to be used by Him to accomplish His will.
Part of that message was that we put on love. We become our brother’s servant. We do what leads to peace and mutual edification. All of these are phrases that Paul used in his letters as he demonstrated what it meant to offer our bodies as a living sacrifice.
I must confess that after I left, we ended up at a friends house with quite a gathering of people. I didn’t put on love completely. And for that, my spirit has been shaken for the past 12 hours or so as I’ve contemplated my own hypocisy. This is no easy task. It’s a new day and the process of being molded and sanctified must continue.
Just needed to get that out there.
