Consumer // Consumed

Several people have asked about an illustration I used on Sunday so  it was suggested that post it here. These came via Louie Giglio in a sermon where he was discusing some similar ideas (this is paraphrased just from what I could get down):

Consumer worship asks what’s in it for me while Consume worship declares, “I’m in it for You.” Consumer worship asks what you get while Consumed worship asks, “What can I give.” Consumer worship thinks its about something you buy while Consumed worship realizes you’ve already been bought. Consumer worship thinks its all about style while Consumed worship knows it’s all about surrender. Consumer worship is enjoyable while Consumed worship is costly and always involves sacrifece. Consumer worship is about my preference while Consumed worship asks what God requires. Consumer worship is about experiences while Consumer worship is about actions. Consumer worship feels goodw while Consumed worship hurts good. Consumer worship is segmented to portions of the week, an hour here or there while Consumed worship is about all of life. Consumer worship uses up the song while Consumed worshipers know God uses up the singer. Consumed worship is about my choice while Consumer worship is about God’s will. Consumer worship can’t get enough while Consumed worship is always looking for how to give more. Consumer worship is about trends while Consumed worship is about eternity. Consumer worship is all about what you’re downloading while Consumed worship is all about who you’re bowing down to. Consumer worship is all about being happy while Consumed worship is all about bringing happiness. Consumer worship is all about me while Consumed worship is all about me being all about Him.
