"Do this in remembrance of me".

I believe that communion refines our focus on what Jesus Christ did for us. More than just a broad picture of "Jesus Christ loves me" (note: that is a life giving statement), i believe that for me, it draws me to the foot of the cross and makes my knees bend and hit the ground.

Taking in the body and blood of Jesus Christ, reaffirms to me that I have been invited into a covenant, a royal priesthood, a chosen people to live my life with steadfastness of sharing the great news of Jesus Christ with my life.

Communion is something I have really struggled with in the Methodist church. I grew up Lutheran where you had to go to 3 years of confirmation class. You had to complete 2 of those years before you could have your "First Communion". So I was shocked the first time I saw 2 and 3 year olds receiving communion in the Methodist Church. I had been raised to believe that communion is a very sacred event that you didn't participate in until you had had proper training. After being in the Methodist church for 20 years now, I have finally relaxed a little and now allow my small children to participate. Although I still have mixed feelings, I am trying to see both sides of the story.
