Another Lesson in Ethics // my morning breakthrough
So, I don’t have my notes in front of me, so this post is sort of a test of what I learned this morning as well as a summation of a few previous posts. You be the judge of how well I do that. The backstory is this: I was reading this morning when a light went off (in my head, not literally). I put together the puzzle pieces in my mind. I got all fired up and jittery because I felt like I made a breakthrough, which I suppose in actuality is not all that profound.
You can’t have proper ethics without proper theology.
It is difficult to hold up ethical standards to people without being legalistic. How should one go about holding up ethical standards especially in light of a postmodern culture who is opposed to absolute truth?
Help people develop a strong theology. Aide fellow believers in having a much larger view of God in His infinite glory and majesty than they currently hold. Let ethics develop as Holy Spirit convicts during said growth in theology.
Done.

Right! Your personal ethics should come out of a greater understanding of the nature and personality of Jesus Christ.
Also… ethics must be more than simply about behavior. This may be off point, but I find that in the south spirituality often stops with morality. Just DO good. But behavior needs to be the response, not the starting point of our devotion of God. I hope that makes sense.
