Haiti // needs an answer
A quick update about Cornerstone Church’s response to Haiti.
1) We are giving financially to the situation because that’s one way to immediately help, though it is only a start. More on this at a later time. For now, know that yesterday we focused hard as a body of believers to be responsible in this first step.
2) We prayed, we are praying and we will continue to pray. Yesterday we took a good portion of time to stand together in groups and pray for some very specific things in Haiti. This is not the norm for us but was unifying and pressed us together under one common desire to see God move as only he can and will.
3) We want to go. Last week, a few of us tried very hard to connect with the right people in order to get into Haiti this week just to be hands and feet ready to help. There are some who suggest that if we would have really tried we could get there. We disagree. There are also some who suggest that we should ‘wait’ or that maybe going is not the ‘best option,’ for various reasons, time, money, etc. My response to this is that God placed it on our hearts to go and so we immediately responded and should we He speaks. We’re not ones to slough his calling off lightly. Jesus never tells us to just sit back, give some money and it will all work itself out. He wants us to be in the middle of a hopeless situation, being hope for the broken. After prayer, discussion and many closed doors in the immediacy of the situation we still feel that he is calling us to go, it’s just a question of when. Giving and praying are huge. But we must not stop there. So we will pray about the next steps and will pursue when God says, “Okay, now.”
As I spent time this morning speaking and listening, I again felt God saying, “Haiti needs an answer. Many are asking, ‘Why?’ This is not the question that needs to be answered. The question(s) that need an answer for Haiti are, ‘Who will come and help us? Who will come help draw us out of our desperate plight? What do we do next? Where do we find hope?’”
I want to be a part of the movement to answer those questions and to bring hope!
