in love // in love with in love

Some of you know exactly what I’m talking about. Some people are in love with one another. They cherish all the quirkiness of the person they are in love with. They cherish the beauty of the person they are in love with. Every word or action or gesture creates a deeper emotion. There is a sense of connection that cannot be broken. When they are apart, they don’t function at 100% and it’s not a bad thing, they just do better when they are with the person they are in love with. They’re so in love that they’re willing to go to great lengths of sacrifice for the person they are in love with like staying up late nights and getting up for early mornings, driving hundreds of miles just to have breakfast or just forgoing things they love doing for the other person’s happiness.

Then there are the people who are in love with being in love. I think that this can be a hard group to distinguish from the above. These people will have many of the same characteristics. The difference I suppose is that they are never truly happy. They are always spinning in circles trying to keep the love going.

I prayed this morning that I would be the former and not the latter when it comes to my love with Jesus. I think so often that I’m more in love with being in love with Jesus. I pursue the activities of proving to the world that I’m in love with him. I do the things that say, “See how in love with Jesus I am.” When in reality, if I was that in love with him, I would just be pursuing him all day with no concern for whether or not anyone else saw it, just whether he saw it. That everyone else would know and see would be a by-product, not the end game. I don’t want the childish pursuit of accomplishing activities that ‘prove’ my love for Jesus anymore. I want my eyes fixed on him, just falling more in love with him as a result, and the let the working for him flow out of that. Then serving is not another day of work for me, it just happens.

(sorry for the sensitive post. it was just on my mind. I’m going to do something manly now.)

  1. Thanks so much for your post. I’m saving this for sure. Conviction? Maybe. A renewed desire to pursue Him? Absolutely. Thanks again for the post.
