Jesus // verus everyone else
Set up: This is speaking to me (and other people) but directed at no one, I’m just highly convicted about what I’m about to write.
I was reading this morning a popular author and getting all excited when I thought to myself:
Why is it that people get all jacked up about what a modern author says when they say something like, ‘You need to give up everything and follow Jesus. It’s not about you. It’s about the poor and the broken.’ People get all excited and then that author makes all kinds of money because said people get their buddies to read the book they just read. People get excited and then some work gets done as well. Why is this such a phenomenon when these guys are just saying the same thing Jesus said 2000 years ago…and actually lived it out.
I came up with two options as to why this occurs:
a) People aren’t reading their Bibles or at least aren’t paying attention when they do.
b) Yeah, it’s probably ‘a.’

Wow! What a convicting post. You are so right though. There are definitely some great books out there, but if they turn out to be just another “good read” then we are missing the point. Same goes for the Bible. We can’t read it like just another book or opinion. Thanks again for the post.
