I was reading this morning and came across this statement in Galatians 6: “See what large letters I use to as I write to you with my own hand!”

And I thought: a) I think I just discovered the invention of all caps. b) Paul, you’re the only person I take seriously who writes in all caps.

That’s how my day started. Actually, I suppose that was an hour in. But whatever.

Wrestling with a lot and rediscovering my blog at the same time. Here’s a question that I ran across today. Because there are paid/ordained clergy, do you think unintentionally/intentionally people assume there is no need to serve or live missionally? I.e. Why should I, that guy is paid to do it? It intrigued me because I’ve never thought about it…

Here’s the quote from Deep Church where I read this:

What I want to see is everyone using their gifts, ministering to one another. I am not in favor of offices or officers, because they can get in the way of people doing the work of the ministry. If people think someone is being paid or is ordained to be the pastor, then why should they serve? And they won’t.

Thoughts, anyone?

This is a comment from a friend and fellow creative Chris. It was a comment, but was just so good it needed to go on the front page. It’s in response to “how to be creative:

starting from nothing… immersion in the idea or the process.

if it’s about playing with a concept, kick it around and see where it leads. look at it from every direction. get your hands around it. (i.e. What does “______” mean in this context and how can it be realized?)

if it’s is about learning a new way, play with the method. look at different but comparable examples and stretch the boundaries. ask other people, but not experts what they think could/would/should be possible (i.e. can I do this with that, here?)

and don’t be afraid to mess things up because you will.

I’ve been meditating on this phrase this morning, “you will know them by their love.” I wonder if that phrase rings true for me basically. I can run around telling people all day long that I love people, but the line does not say, “you’ll be able to inform people that you love them,” but rather that you will know them or that you will be known by love, indicating that you should never have to say it, but rather that in your life you as acting it out..

Wondering now how that affects me on a day to day and moment by moment basis. How does that shape who I am in my conversations with people? How does it affect the way I treat people in traffic? How does it affect what I blog about? How does it affect what I Twitter about?

I am realizing that if I say I want to build up the bride of Christ like I have said, I have to think about how everything I say and do is going to land on people. Will they see my words and my actions and think love, or will they think otherwise? Heavy thoughts to begin today.
